One of Citrus County's most rewarding programs is the Start Smart
program. The program's goal is to make youth sports fun and safe for kids.
This program is for children ages 3-5, although, occasionally, we do have
programs for children ages 5-7. The program's mission is to make youth sports fun and safe for
kids.
While the Citrus County Parks and Recreation divison primarily concentrates on programs that
are set up for adults, we now also focus on programs that deal directly
with children.
The Start Smart program builds the proficiency and self-assurance that youngsters need to
participate and remain active in sports. It is a step-by-step approach that builds confidence and
self esteem, and most importantly, makes sports fun!
The Smart Start programs concentrate on building basic motor skills, using positive reinforcement,
and enouraging quality one-on-one time with their parents.
