Citrus County Drug Court

Drug Free ZoneCitrus County Dependency Drug Court is a joint effort by the Dependency Court, the treatment providers, the Guardian Ad Litem program, DCF, and Kids Central to help the individual who has a drug/alcohol problem and is involved with Dependency Court. Through rehabilitation, our goal is to return parents to the community with skills and commitment to a better life for themselves and their families.

Phase I

A minimum of 8 weeks in length

Participants must take part in an assessment with a treatment provider. Using the information gathered, treatment goals are developed. Outpatient group treatment sessions are required at least three times per week. Individual counseling sessions are also required. Random urine screens are done at least twice per week. court appearances are weekly during this phase. Participants will develop a relationship with the Judge and the team members during this eight week phase of the program. Also during this phase, there is an opportunity to become familiar with the fellowship of AA. After a minimum of eight sanction free weeks, participants may be eligible for advancement to Phase II.

Phase II

A minimum of 22 weeks in length

Tasks in this phase include: attending more group sessions, identifying relapse signs and high risk situations, developing a sober support system with a home group and a sponsor, obtaining full time employment or educational placement. Random urine screens are a minimum of once per week. Based on an individual treatment plan, there will be two treatment sessions per week and bi-weekly court appearances. A minimum of twenty-two sanction free weeks and being current with all financial obligations is required for advancement.

Phase III

A minimum of 22 weeks in length

In this phase of treatment, the client is encouraged to use the support system developed during the program. There will be weekly group attendance and other treatment will be according to the individual needs of the client. The twelve step meetings and the participant's work with the sponsor will lead to community service work. Urine screens are a minimum of once per week. An aftercare plan will be developed and a Life Plan resented to the treatment group.

Phase IV - Aftercare

This final segment of the program is a minimum of six months based on program compliance. In this phase, the focus is transitioning to the use of the community for support. Urine screens are a minimum of twice per month. Upon successful completion of the program, the original charges will be dismissed from the legal record.


Drug Court or Court Alternatives is an option to the person addicted to mood altering substances. It is a program of 12-24 months long providing treatment and close supervision to help with rehabilitation. It is a structured, holistic approach designed to help the client achieve the highest possible level of functioning. The cost of the program is the sole responsibility of the participant.

We are part of a solution for the people who have exhausted many of their options in the legal system.
